Mental Health

The Center for the Promotion of Mental Health in Juvenile Justice. This center at Columbia University was created in 2001 to address the high prevalence of mental illness among inmates in juvenile facilities across the nation. The Center has sites around the country dedicated to assisting community members and administrators in juvenile detention facilities to develop appropriate mental health measures for inmates and disseminating evidence-based practices.

Columbia University TeenScreen®. The Columbia University TeenScreen® Program works by creating partnerships with schools and communities and helping them to implement their own screening programs to identify at-risk teens and pre-teens. The program is now used in high schools and other settings in 26 states. It was developed under the leadership of David Shaffer, M.D., the Director of the Columbia University's Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. http://www.teenscreen.org/
